Welcome. Using Maybe Not means you agree to these terms. They’re short on purpose.
What Maybe Not is
Maybe Not is a mobile app that uses an AI model to read text messages you paste in and give you feedback on how the message may land, the risk of sending it, and an alternative version. It is a personal tool for self-reflection, not professional advice.
What Maybe Not is not
Maybe Not is not therapy, counseling, legal advice, medical advice, or a crisis service. The reads the AI provides are opinions generated by software, not professional guidance. If you are in emotional distress or thinking about hurting yourself, please reach out to a real person or a crisis line such as 988 (in the United States).
Who can use it
You must be 17 or older to use Maybe Not. By using the app you confirm you meet this age requirement.
How you can use it
- For your own personal, non-commercial use.
- To check messages you yourself are thinking of sending.
How you can't use it
- To analyze messages you didn't write yourself, when doing so would violate someone else's privacy.
- To harass, threaten, or harm another person.
- To generate content that is illegal, hateful, or sexually explicit toward minors.
- To attempt to reverse engineer or scrape the app or its underlying AI.
- To resell, rebrand, or redistribute Maybe Not's content or service.
Subscriptions and payments
Maybe Not offers a free tier and paid subscription tiers (monthly, yearly, and lifetime). All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. You can manage and cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings.
- Free trials convert to paid subscriptions at the end of the trial period unless cancelled.
- Refund requests are handled by Apple under their refund policy.
- Lifetime purchases unlock Pro features for the lifetime of the app. If we shut down the app or migrate to a successor product, we'll provide reasonable notice and a path forward.
Your content
Anything you type into Maybe Not (the messages you check, the vents you save) is your content. You own it. We don't claim any rights to it, and we don't store it on our servers. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture on data handling.
Our content
The AI's reads, suggested rewrites, and recommended moves are generated for you in the moment. You can use them however you like (send them, post screenshots, share with friends). The Maybe Not name, brand, app design, and code remain ours.
AI output disclaimer
The AI is software. It can be wrong. It can misread tone. It can suggest a rewrite that doesn't fit your situation. You are the one who decides what to send. Use Maybe Not as a second opinion, not a final answer.
Service availability
We try to keep Maybe Not running. We can't promise it'll be available 100% of the time. We may pause or remove features, or shut the service down. We'll give reasonable notice when we can.
Limitation of liability
Maybe Not is provided "as is." We're not liable for any harm, loss, or damage that results from a message you sent (or didn't send) based on what the AI told you. The decision to send a text is always yours.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we make significant changes, we'll show you a notice in the app. Continued use of the app after changes go into effect counts as your agreement to the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
